No “Constitutional Basis” for Gov’t Education, “Empower Us” Instead: DeSantis

Public schools have become “indoctrination camps” with the help of the federal government, explained Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in a press conference at Pensacola State College on higher education. The governor explained that the Founding Fathers never envisioned government would be involved in education at all.

In fact, there has “never been any constitutional basis” for the Department of Education and other methods of federal “meddling,” the governor told The Liberty Sentinel’s Andrew Muller.

He also praised President Trump’s efforts to gut the Department of Education and explained how the quality of education plummeted academically and morally after federal intrusion. “Empower us,” the governor concluded, calling for Florida to take control of funds to improve education with more local control. While many argue that only families, churches, and the local community should influence education, getting the federal government out of the picture is a positive step in the right direction.

DeSantis took the podium to address grievances with Republicans in the Florida state legislature who are “behaving like Democrats” to “undermine” his efforts to eradicate “wokeness” and Marxist-inspired critical race theory out of colleges.

One bill in particular DeSantis focused on was HB 1321, sponsored by Pensacola State Rep. Michelle Salzman (R) and co-sponsored by Rep. Anna Eskamani (D), whom DeSantis labeled as the most “flamboyantly left-wing Democrat in the entire Florida House of Representatives.” The legislation, according to DeSantis, would prohibit the governor and his staff from “communications involving who gets selected to be university president” in Florida colleges.

DeSantis said if the bill passes with Republican support, “communist” professors would be able to push radical left ideologies with no threat of being fired by the executive branch of state government.

This bill being supported by a Republican is a symptom of new leadership in the Florida House that is anti-DeSantis, explained former Florida state legislator and recent congressional candidate Dr. Joel Rudman. “What you’re looking at is a planned ambush.”

Floridians must be fully alert to the threats of infiltration into the Republican party by Democrats that want to undo the work of the governor’s administration, Dr. Rudman concluded.
