Citing low mortality rates, British health authorities have downgraded the threat level of the COVID19 Communist Chinese virus, which is no longer considered a “high consequence infectious disease” (HCID).
Despite the important ruling, the United Kingdom continues to be on national lock down by order of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Police are enforcing the order.
“I urge you, at this moment of national emergency, to stay at home, protect our [National Health Service] NHS, and save lives,” Johnson said.
According to Gov.UK, the government’s official website, the decision to downgrade the Coronavirus was made on March 19 by the United Kingdom’s 4 nations public health HCID group.
The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) agreed that COVID-19 should no longer be classified as an HCID, which has important legal consequences.
“This was based on consideration of the UK HCID criteria about the virus and the disease with information available during the early stages of the outbreak,” the government said.
“Now that more is known about COVID-19, the public health bodies in the UK have reviewed the most up to date information about COVID-19 against the UK HCID criteria,” it continued.
The government group concluded: “They have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall), and there is now greater clinical awareness and a specific and sensitive laboratory test, the availability of which continues to increase.”
Authorities said there was still a need for a “national, coordinated response.” But it said the government was taking care of that.
Like in the United States, the government’s response has crushed the economy, collapsing stock prices and businesses nationwide as the ranks of the unemployed surge.
Critics of the response have blasted it as a draconian assault on fundamental liberties based on establishment media-driven fear-mongering.
The U.K. lock-down is set to be re-assessed in three weeks, the prime minister said.
