California Governor Gavin Newsom is calling for a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to restrict the 2nd Amendment and limit Americans’ God-given right to keep and bear arms, and he wants to use an Article V “Convention of States” to do it, explain Alex Newman and Christian Gomez in this special episode of The Sentinel Report.
According to the California Governor’s Office, “Today Governor Gavin Newsom proposed a 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution to enshrine fundamental, broadly supported gun safety measures into law. While leaving the 2nd Amendment unchanged and respecting America’s gun-owning tradition, the Governor’s proposal guarantees common sense constitutional protections and gun safety measures that Democrats, Republicans, independent voters, and gun owners overwhelmingly support – including universal background checks, raising the firearm purchase age to 21, instituting a firearm purchase waiting period, and barring the civilian purchase of assault weapons.”
Gomez, who researches this issue and just published an article about it in The New American magazine, warned that leftists would seek to change the mode of ratification to undermine other key elements of the Constitution as well.
The 2nd Amendment is not the only item on the chopping block; if Governor Newsom had his way, America would pass his radical amendment by invoking an Article V Convention to revise the Constitution.
“Passage of the 28th Amendment will require a convention to propose amendments to the United States Constitution, also known as an Article V Convention or amendatory convention.” said Newsom’s office, “Working in partnership with members of the California State Senate and Assembly, California will be the first state in the nation to call for such a convention with a joint resolution being introduced by California State Senator Aisha Wahab and Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer. The Governor will work with grassroots supporters, elected and civic leaders, and broad and diverse coalitions across the nation to fight for the passage of similar resolutions in other state legislatures to ensure the convening of a constitutional convention limited to this subject. 33 other states, in addition to California, would need to take action to convene such a convention.”
Americans must be informed and ready to push back against the attacks against our 2nd Amendment rights and the safety of our Constitution as written.

In the news, Alex and Christian cover:
– Pat Robertson, a religious broadcaster, political commentator, presidential candidate, and Southern Baptist minister, passed away on June 8, 2023.
– The Southern Poverty Law Center says Moms for Liberty is a hate group. Last year, the Biden White House worked with the National School Board Association to label parents as domestic terrorists. Today, the Southern Poverty Law Center labels the organization (an organization full of moms who care about their kids) a hate group.
– Government agencies are going all out for pride month, with the USDA, CIA, and even the USAF posting pride flags and promoting the LGBTQIA+ agenda.
– California Governor Gavin Newsome calls for a 28th Amendment to the Constitution to restrict gun rights, raising the threat of an Article V Convention.
This whole story is pure conjecture and balderdash. You are out chasing shadows in the dark, when we have real enemies we can see in the light, and you do NOT have a solution that can work.
* Newsom has zero power outside CA, and he cannot get a constitutional amendment proposed. Zero chance. They cannot even invoke this convention you talk about, which requires 38 states just to convene.
* Newsom together with the Democrats can’t get it done either.
* Plus, let’s assume for a minute that they DID get such a trashy amendment proposed…. In NO way would it be ratified by 38 states.
IF YOU THINK SO, then give me a believable list of 38 states that would ratify it….you can’t.
IF there would ever come a time when it could be, it would be pointless because the nation would already be down the sewer and over the cliff. IT is headed there fast enough, because YOU have NO solutions that can work.
If this nation is to be saved from the brink, you won’t be the one to get it done. History proves that.
If they change the mode of ratification as was done in 1787 to, say, a national democratic vote requiring 50% + 1, all it would take is some ballot stuffing in NY and CA to get it done. The Articles of Confederation required unanimous consent among all states for changes, but when they threw it out at that Constitutional Convention/Convention of States, they changed the method of ratification to 3/4 of states. This is a very dangerous idea.
