Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States of America. He is the main author of the Declaration of Independence. He also secured the Louisiana purchase. This man is none other than Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13 1743. His father was named Peter Jefferson. Thomas’s mother was called Jane Randolph. Another really interesting thing about Thomas is that he was a very good inventor and invented a simple copying machine also called a polygraph. He was also a vice president and in 1800 he became the US president after winning over john Adams.
When he was first elected one of the first things he did was try to restore the spirit of 1776. He regarded himself as very loyal to the constitution. Thomas Jefferson really wanted to lower national debt. During Thomas’s life there were many personal attacks on him from people who didn’t agree with him. In 1804 he won his second presidential term but in 1809 James Madison became president. In the last 17 years of life he remained in Virginia. One of his last great advancements was founding the University Virginia which was chartered in 1819. he died on July 4th 1826 on the 50th anniversary of the declaration of independence just hours before John Adams. Today he is still honored on the nickel.
